Hey, you.

I’m Andrea and I’m so happy you’re here! I hope you feel like you’ve found a page where you can talk to a friend about style tips, family life and mental health.

I got you, girl!

Shop Your Own Closet

Shop Your Own Closet

I have a new rule I’ve been *trying* to follow. Before buying new clothes I have to try and make new outfits with what I already own. It’s a great way to see what I already have, what I gravitate to in my closet, the clothes I have forgotten about and what I really have no use for anymore.
Basically, I’m shopping my own closet, and here’s how I do it:

Edit your closet.
Plainly said, editing means purging. Edit out all the items you don’t wear and/or don’t fit anymore.

Organize. I love an organized closet. Once you’ve edited your closet organize it in a way that makes it easy to access pieces and make outfits. Personally, I organize my closet by sleeve length, colour and seasons.

Create a vision board. Having difficulty finding your own style and putting outfits together? We’re living in a time when it’s really easy to find style inspiration. Create a style vision board on Pinterest that suits your personality, budget and interests. You can also use the save option on Instagram to save outfits you’d love to try and create and refer back to them later. I like to organize my Pinterest board into basics, weekend/casual and workwear (see below).

Start making outfits. You’ve edited, organized and have a vision - now it’s time to start creating outfits. Start with outfits you’ve worn and then start mixing and matching prints and textures. This is a great opportunity to try something new! You can easily create completely different outfits by using minimal pieces of clothing all by layering and adding different accessories.
Don’t forget to document your outfits for later!

Stop saving pieces for special occasions. I struggle with this one. I have amazing pieces and hardly wear them because they are a little fancier than my day to day outfits, so I save them for a “special occasion” that rarely happens. It’s time to stop letting those clothes sit in the closet, let them sparkle and start wearing them unapologetically!

As you can see, it’s really easy (and cost effective) to make new outfits from what’s already in your closet!
