Styling a Trench Coat for Spring
I wait all winter to pull my trench coat out of the closet. It’s the easiest piece to throw on and look effortlessly chic and put together. I love how wearing this one piece can change your entire look. Personally I prefer a long trench coat because it definitely makes more of a statement. Although some trench coats are a little bit costly, I see it as a long term investment piece because I don’t think it’s going to go out of style anytime soon.
Here are a few different ways to wear a trench this spring:
Classic, slightly unbutton shirt. I love wearing this coat with a classic button down shirt and jeans, as styled below; an immediate classic look.
Weekend casual. A weekend favourite look for many. I prefer a monochromatic jogging look with white sneakers. You can Eve throw on a baseball cap and you’ll still look amazing - it’s called accessorizing.
Canadian tuxedo. Denim on denim with a trench over top paired with a great pair of flats, a simple pendent necklace, the perfect pair of sunglasses and you’re more than ready for brunch this spring.
Add some floral. I know, floral anything is cliché for spring, but hear me out. A flowy floral dress under a trench coat, ready for work or going out for dinner with friends. If you’re not into floral, go with a bold colour or print dress to make a real statement.
Wide or straight leg pants. I’ll always love my skinny jeans, but I’m also loving straight leg jeans/pants right now. Any colour or wash is appropriate and paired with a simple plain t-shirt or dressed up with a blouse (really, you can dress this one up or down), tucked in of course, how super chic! Add a statement bag or shoe and you’re ready to go!
