How I'm Keeping My Winter Outfits Interesting

How I'm Keeping My Winter Outfits Interesting

I have officially hit the “I’m so sick of winter and all my winter clothes” stage of this season, anyone else? Living in Canada winters are met with a lot of snow and really cold temperatures, which can unfortunately limit outfit options.

Do you want to know how I’m keeping my spirits up and my wardrobe fresh as I wait out the final (hopefully) week of winter? Keep reading…

I incorporate colour as much as possible. Winter usually brings out a lot of black, white and grey tones, but this winter I decided that I needed colour in my life. Bonus - all this colour will take me right into Spring!

Considering that when I’m out on the weekends the piece of clothing people see most is my coat, I wear a coat that is a statement colour (see, colour again!) and if my coat is dark or neutral I add a colourful blanket scarf. It helps me feel put together, and when I feel put together it’s an instant mood lifter - no matter what season it is!

Confession, as much as I’ve been wearing a lot more colour this season, I have a love affair with wearing black (and any other neutral for that matter), but it’s no secret that after awhile it can become a downer, especially when the skies are grey and the ground is white. Here’s my tip, keep it interesting. Wearing a black sweater? Wear one with the cold shoulder look, or throw a distressed jean jacket over top of it. Are you wearing a lot of neutrals to work? Pair it with statement jewelry, patterned/coloured pants or shirts and/or super fun boots/booties.

This year I loved layering my sweaters. Layering a knit with a long knit cardigan kept me looking chic and warm! It’s also a great way to keep your winter wardrobe looking interesting. I did this by using neutrals - see, not everything has to involve colour!

In my day to day job I can dress pretty casual, but you can only wear jeans so much until it feels boring and repetitive. I decided to buy my first pair(s) of high waisted pants. I find them really flattering! I love the look of tucking camisoles, t-shirts, and sweaters into high waisted pants. FYI tucking your shit in is instantly chic and almost always flattering! Don’t be afraid to try something new!
