Tips for Hosting Brunch at Home
Can we normalize making random days and dinners special? I love hosting, and don’t get to do it enough these days.
How do I fix this problem? I choose random days to make brunches or dinners super special by creating tablescapes and bringing out my fancy glassware and serving dishes - even if it’s just for the three of us.
This just happened to be our Easter brunch, but I went all out for my little family of three.
‘Whether you’re normalizing making random days special like me, or hosting a party or holiday, I know it can be overwhelming. Below I’m sharing some of my best tips for hosting.
Choose a theme. This will likely be driven by the food you’re serving and/or your guests. I always decide on my menu first then allow that to influence my tablescape choices. I love making themes night dinners, that’s one easy way to bring fun to your otherwise ordinary dinners.
Know your audience. What are their likes? When I recently made brunch for my family I stuck with the food choices I knew they would eat. As much as I could have made casseroles and bakes, I know it would have gone to waste. Knowing your guests will help you know where to invest your time and money.
Break out the good stuff. Don’t be afraid to break out your best stuff - that’s why you have it! I have the most beautiful tablecloths, glasses and plates from my grandmother that literally sit and collect dust while I wait for the “perfect” time to bring them out. Not anymore! I use my favourite serving dishes and glassware anytime now.
Add special touches. I always try to do one “special” thing per person. Sometimes it’s something personalized on their plate and sometimes it’s an individual treat. For our brunch I made chocolate covered strawberries and individually plated them using special plates. I even included a mini cupcake on my sons plate because I knew he would absolutely love it.
Add music. This is just a really simple way to add to the atmosphere. Create a dinner party playlist and play it softly in the background.
