Hey, you.

I’m Andrea and I’m so happy you’re here! I hope you feel like you’ve found a page where you can talk to a friend about style tips, family life and mental health.

I got you, girl!

The Morning Routine You Need

The Morning Routine You Need

I never thought a solid morning routine could make a difference in my life, but here I am, admitting that I was wrong. Truthfully, I really suck at morning routines but I’ve come to the realization that when I’m out of routine I’m a whole lot less productive throughout my day, which also affects my mood and attitude.
So here’s what I’ve started doing most mornings - I say most because I believe in transparency and life with a toddler doesn’t always allow me the luxury of a great, consistent morning routine, but I’m working on it because I’m seeing and feeling the benefits to this routine!

1. Deep breaths when your alarm goes off
I don’t know about you, but if I’m in a deep sleep when my alarm goes off in the morning I want to jump out of my skin. And as much as I want to hit snooze, I don’t.
Now, when I hear my alarm I take a few deep breaths to calm and slow my body and mind. Mindfulness and mindful breathing is a practice I have adopted as part of my daily life.

2. Stretch/Exercise
Really, just get moving. Ever since my back injury I find that my body is always so stiff first thing in the morning. I find the best way to loosen up my muscles and joints is by getting up in the morning and doing some really simple stretching.

3. Hydrate
Before I go to bed at night I place a cup of water on my nightstand so that first thing in the morning I have water to drink. Drinking water first thing in the morning (yes, even before coffee) has so many healthy benefits like boosting metabolism, kickstarting your digestive system and energizing your body (to name a few!).

4. Shower/skin care
Water has so many healing and calming effects on the body. Obviously it’s just good hygiene to shower, but I always take the first few minutes to let the water run over me while I take a few more deep breaths. I follow this up with brushing my teeth and washing and moisturizing my face and body.

5. Make your bed
Making my bed is apart of my daily practice. I’ve said this so many times before, I’m not sure why but when my bed is made I feel like I’m going to have a very productive day. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to open your blinds and let in all that glorious sunlight!

6. Fuel up
I know the saying is “but first, coffee”, but it’s definitely not the first thing I do in the morning, but definitely helps get me going.
Truthfully, I’ve never been a breakfast eater, I’m just not hungry when I get up. Something like a piece of fruit or a smoothie is my go-to. I’m currently loving Pulp and Press cold pressed juices right now to get me ready to go each morning.

You’ll notice that I didn’t include “check my phone” in this routine. It’s not because I don’t check it, I do. But spending time checking my phone first thing in the morning is a habit I’m really trying to kick. Baby steps here, people.
What does your morning routine look like?
